Port Shore Excursion From Civitavecchia Port To Roman Castles Area

Due Golfi Car Service is pleased to present  the new exciting Port Shore Excursion from Rome/Civitavecchia Port to Roman Castles Area. Our chauffeurs will wait for you at the Port of Civitavecchia and they will take you on a fabulous journey, immersed in nature and history. A  special tour which will let you discover all the towns that make up the Castelli Romani. In the southern part of the roman countryside lies a volcanic area  known as \"Castelli Romani\". These Castles, many of Roman origin,  were the fortresses of  the Lords of  these lands,  who after the fall of the Roman Empire and during the Middle Ages dominated  the region for centuries. The tour will touch the most beautiful places in the area including the Belvedere of  Frascati and the Villa Aldobrandini,  Castelgandolfo, the ancient Albalonga overlooking   Albano’s lake, with the papal  palace built on the ruins of Domitian Palace, Nemi with its lake and the sacred grove of Diana. Due Golfi Car Service suggests you to start by  visiting  Montecompatri,  a picturesque town surrounded by vegetation still intact including vineyards and olive groves. In the residential complex it is situated  the important church of Santa Maria Assunta commissioned  by  cardinal Scipione Borghese. From Montecomprati continue to  Monte Porzio Catone passing through a road  bordered by vineyards and olive groves that continues to the picturesque center of the city that owes its name to its famous citizen Marco Porcius  Catone the Censor or to Catone l\'Uticense, Lucullo\'s son tutor. From Monte Porzio, making a small detour, reach Colonna, the smallest municipality  in the province of Rome. In the town, linked to the homonymous family , in addition to  the baronial Palace , can be admired, inside San Nicola church, paintings of Carlo Maratta (1625-1713), of Carlo Chiappino (1759) and Cambellotti (1944).

The stoup is a very particular piece that was made from a seashell, Tridacma gigas, maybe one of the biggest in Europe. From Colonna a scenic road climbs to Rocca Priora, the highest of the Castelli Romani, located 768 meters above sea level. The alleys, streets and squares of this town still retain a distinctive medieval appearance. Back in Monte Porzio pass in Frascati, the best known of the Castelli Romani, the territory is part of the area with important archaeological remains of ancient Tusculum. It was a Latin city destroyed by the Romans in 1191, here duegolficarservice offers a relaxing soak with a visit to the viwpoint  and Villa Aldobrandini.

Our drivers will take you then to Grottaferrata, built around the abbey founded by St. Nile in 1004, within which you can visit the beautiful Church of Santa Maria with the twelfth century mosaics and frescoes of Domenichino. From Grottaferrata an uphill road leads to Rocca di Papa, also known as the \"window of Castelli Romani\" because from it you can see the whole valley up to Rome. Here Due Golfi Car Service proposes a brief stop to admire the fantastic scenery that has so captivated the greatest European artists during the grand tour. From Rocca dei Papi, our drivers will take you to the legendary Nemi Lake,  a graceful  village that caresses the lines of the hill and the lake on whose banks stood the Temple of Diana. The lake was also a place of games for the Emperor Caligula who had taken naval battles. The remains of Roman ships, destroyed during the Second World War, were hospitalized in the Ship Museum, located on the lake-shore, in an unusual and impressive place, from which it is possible to see  the silhouette of the town, dominated by  Palazzo Ruspoli.

Back on the main street it leads to the dynamic and populous Velletri the largest town of the Castelli Romani, the ancient Velitrae,; full of squares, churches and palaces. In  Ariccia the urban discourse becomes more important in Court Square, designed by  the genius of  Gian LorenzoBernini. The famous viaduct, long and narrow, wanted by Pious IX, that overlooks La Vallericcia allowing the sight to come down to the sea, opens in the square where it meets on one side Palazzo Chigi and on the other the Church of the Assumption. After Ariccia  there is Albano: from the main road  a series of small lanes, that sometimes open to squares lined with trees  facing churches or homes, climb on the left . Albano is a city of ancient memories, the ruins are still visible as those of the magnificent amphitheater of Castra Albani. Albano gives way to the calm Castel Gandolfo where Due Golfi Car Service suggests a stop for a visit to the beautiful Villa Barberini, Papal residence, that hides,in a beautiful garden, the remains of  Villa Diomiziano. The town\'s main square, dominated by the prospect of the Villa Barberini, is decorated by a fountain and church of St. Thomas, both by Bernini. Along the central course openings among the long row of buildings let you see magnificent views of Albano’s lake or  of Castel Gandolfo to which it is possible to descend  through an area of high landscape impact. The placid water of the lake, whose level is kept constant by an emissary, a masterpiece of the Roman civil engineering, is received within a secondary crater of an ancient volcano and welcome small beaches and lush vegetation. Driving along a stretch of Lake Albano lead  to Marino, active center, formerly a fief of the Colonna who dominated it until 1814, the Napoleonic era. Famous is the Fountain of the Four Moors, which commemorates the victory over the Turks at Lepanto, hence our drivers along the noble and picturesque Via Appia will drive you back to Rome and to Port of Civitavecchia.

All the desetinatinations in this tour can be arranged and modified directly with your driver.
